Alfa Laval's water treatment system gets USCG approval
The US Coast Guard (USCG) has given its type approval for the ballast water treatment device Alfa Laval PureBallast 2
In order to become compatible with the USCG testing regime, the machine underwent some technological modifications.
With the improvements in place, the tests were completed in April 2020 with a PureBallast 2 system with a Boll & Kirsch filter, and the solution has now obtained USCG style approval.
Since June 2012, the USCG Ballast Water Discharge Standard has been in place.
Some IMO-approved systems have been approved for use in U.S. waters as alternative management systems during an initial period of time (AMS).
“We are proud to bring USCG type approval to owners who selected PureBallast early on. A ballast water treatment system should last as long as the vessel, and we are committed supporting PureBallast customers throughout that lifetime. No matter when they made their purchase, Alfa Laval is behind them,” said Peter Sahlén, Head of Alfa Laval PureBallast.
