The new buildings, delivered by the same builder in 2018 following the PSA Thor and PSA Hulk, are of the same basic design with some modifications, said naval architect Robert Allan Ltd.

The RAmparts 3200 ASD tugs are equipped for ship assistance in port/terminal berthing and un-berthing operations, coastal towing operations, and are also capable of escort service.

The vessels feature a special deckhouse and wheelhouse specially built for PSA Marine, which is unique in style.

Two Caterpillar 3516C main diesels coupled with two Schottel model SRP 510 Z-drives, along with a pair of Cummins CSMTA11-IMO T2 diesel generators, are the propulsion and auxiliary machinery.

The PSA Marvel and PSA Valkyrie met or exceeded all performance standards during trials, including 83.5 tonnes of bollard pull and 13.5 knots of free running speed.

For a crew of 10, the accommodation was designed to an MLC compliant level. An entry lobby, the galley, mess, two officer cabins and a toilet are included in the main deckhouse. There are four double berth cabins with shared en suite toilets on the lower deck.

The wheelhouse is built with a single split control station that provides the bow and side fendering with optimum all round visibility and exceptional visibility. The engine room features a small, acoustically isolated switchboard room.
