Damen completes trials on Indonesian guided missile frigate
Damen Shipyards Group and its partner PT PAL recently completed the installation and testing of battle systems at SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) second of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense guided missile frigates, the company said in its release K
The PKR frigates are constructed through a modular process operating simultaneously in the Netherlands at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) and in Indonesia at the PT PAL shipyard. This way, Damen can create high-quality vessels anywhere in the world.
This approach also enables Damen to fulfill its dedication to providing an comprehensive information and technology transfer (ToT) program at the Indonesian Ministry of Defence.
The installation of battle systems along with the provision of instruction to the crew in their use and maintenance is a major part of this transition programme.
“From the outset of this project DSNS and our partner Thales Netherlands have been fully committed to the development of the Indonesian defence industry and its supporting sectors. This commitment is demonstrated with a series of ToT and local content programmes starting in 2013 when project execution commenced, “ stated Hein van Ameijden, managing director of DSNS.
