The STM BALT SAFE initiative, with an emphasis on increasing tanker health, is signing 50 tankers that often sail in the Baltic Sea, with Wärtsilä winning the contract.

Ship Testbed Manager Cajsa Jersler Fransson says, "Wärtsilä Voyage has the know-how, the base installed and the commitment to a more connected future."

The STM BALT SAFE project further enhances tanker protection in the Baltic Sea by allowing more tankers to share routes and offering digital VTS-services.

The project STM BALT SAFE is piloting new operational capabilities based on the principle of Sea Traffic Management, STM.

Information is transmitted between ships through AIS. The data is exchanged between ships and shore through the Maritime Digital Infrastructure formerly contracted to Navelink, a non-profit industry partnership.
