Total Marine Fuels has been awarded its third LNG bunker supplier license by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The license will be valid for five years, beginning January 1, 2022, according to the port authority.

To drive demand and rise LNG bunkering volumes in Singapore, Total Marine Fuels, a unit of the French major Total, has been added to the existing licensees, FueLNG and Pavilion Energy.

MPA released a Request for Proposal on October 28, 2020 for parties seeking to supply LNG bunker in the Port of Singapore, in order to meet the region's increasing demand for LNG as a marine fuel. It currently has a one-million-tonne-per-year LNG bunker supply room.

"As the world’s top bunkering hub, the Port of Singapore is well-positioned to expand its offering of marine fuel solutions. LNG serves as a viable and clean transitional marine fuel to reduce carbon emissions from ships," commented Quah Ley Hoon MPA chief executive.

MPA will also continue to work with interested parties to expand the bunkering ecosystem in the Port of Singapore and accelerate the move to a more sustainable future, according to the announcement.
