The Korean Register established LNG bunkering simulation center

The Korean Register (KR) has introduced a new simulation center for LNG fuel and bunkering (KR LSC). The new facility is located at KR's Busan headquarters and was formally opened on 15 September.

Following the opening ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between KR and Transgas Solution agreeing to build an Operator Training Simulator (OTS) system to train LNG-propelled ship operators and ship-to - ship bunkering operators.

Using of LNG as a ship's fuel and demand for bunkering is expected to increase as a result of the regulations of the International Maritime Organization to minimize SOx, which came into force at the beginning of this year, and with the strengthening of potential GHG emission regulations.

The company said the simulation center would provide extensive technical services related to LNG operations, including not only the tailored testing and optimum operations for LNG fuel supply and bunkering systems, but also the thorough liquefied gas risk analysis for fuel-propelled ships such as LNG, hydrogen, and ammonia.

The newly developed KR LSC will provide unified technical LNG services that incorporate simulation technology and allow the implementation of a pretreatment system for the propulsion of LNG fuel.
