South Korean shipbuilder Samsung to build two Neopanamax containerships
A contract for the construction of two Neopanamax containerships has been secured by South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
SHI revealed on 4 February that it will build two 13,000 TEU boxships for an unidentified shipowner from Oceania.
The contract was estimated at 232,1 billion KRW (around 207 million dollars). According to the shipbuilder, the new buildings are scheduled for completion by the end of Q1 2023.
SHI has been winning orders for five vessels since the start of 2021. These include four containerships and one LNG carrier, accounting for 8% of the company's $78 billion 2021 order goal.
