Delicay Vlll, like its sisters, is a versatile Z-drive tractor tug designed to Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd's exclusive to Sanmar TRAktor-Z 2500SX design, which was developed in close collaboration with the Turkish tug-builder and operator.

The Delicay Vlll is a 25.3m x 12m x 6.1m omnidirectional ship designed for optimum productivity in both harbour ship handling and towing duties.

The tug was built at Sanmar Shipyards Altinova and is propelled by two 2100kW main engines, giving it a top speed of around 12 knots and a bollard pull of 75 tonnes. It has an 84m3 fuel oil capacity.

“Like our external customers, we have been delighted with the performance of the Delicay class tugs. Their state-of-the-art design was achieved through extensive physical model testing and computational fluid dynamics simulations which, coupled with the use of the latest technologies, means this small tug can achieve and often exceed the work capacity of its larger predecessors," said Ali Gurun, Vice President of Sanmar.

From the aft-based main console, the tug's wheelhouse is designed for optimum 360-degree visibility. To minimize visibility obstructions across the wheelhouse perimeter, main engine exhaust stacks have been routed through areas of natural blind spots, such as the door frame and window mullions. Overhead visibility and the ability to perform operations under the flare of a ship are provided by overhead windows and a revolving mast.

Off the aft main deck, a double drum winch and dual aperture staple combination is used for ship handling and towing.
