Samsung Heavy receives the first order of the year

For South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) the year-end order boom does not seem to have ended.

SHI signed a shipbuilding deal with fellow shipping company Pan Ocean for one LNG carrier, the shipbuilder said in a Tuesday stock exchange filing.

The deal has, as announced, a value of KRW 199 billion (about $183 million). It is expected to deliver the ship to its owner by 30 April 2023.

SHI has issued orders for the construction of 20 LNG carriers beginning in November 2020. Only in the last days of December did SHI unveil three separate construction deals for LNG carriers, comprising a total of eight units.
