Viridis Bulk Carriers is a joint venture between Norwegian shipping consultancy Amon Maritime and Norwegian shipowners Navigare Shipping & Logistics and AS Mosvolds Rederi.

A+A-

Green and blue ammonia will be used to fuel the company's ships, which will specialize in short-sea shipping.

As previously announced, the JV is in talks with a number of shipyards about placing orders for a series of vessels that will be delivered between 2024 and 2025.

According to Viridis Bulk Carriers, zero carbon ammonia would initially be sold at a higher cost than MGO and other traditional marine fuels. Zero carbon ammonia is expected to compete effectively on cost in the future, according to the company.

The ships will also be equipped with batteries and a shore power link, forming an ammonia-electric hybrid power system that will allow for silent maneuvering and cargo operations, according to Viridis Bulk Carriers.

The range capability of the short sea bulk carriers will reach 3,000 nautical miles.
