Maritime tradefair SMM to discuss "The Value Of Wind And Water"

In Germany, soaring Covid-19 infection numbers now mean that Hamburg Messe und Congress, SMM Digital-The Maritime Business Hub, is instead organizing the 29th edition as a solely digital event for the maritime community.

"About 70% of our planet is covered by water. The Earth's oceans play a key role in shaping the global climate. The more important it is to gather and evaluate as much information as possible about the composition of this ecosystem and how it changes. Technologies that can be employed for this purpose will be one of the topics of this year's Offshore Dialogue which will take place on 2 February during SMM DIGITAL," the organizers announced.

International experts will address emerging developments in the offshore wind farm market, technological problems facing tidal and wave energy conversion, and groundbreaking ocean tracking technologies at SMM Hamburg's Offshore Dialogue online conference on 2 February.

Exhibitors and clients from all over the world will be able to discuss maritime issues online and digitally participate in conferences.

WindEnergy Hamburg will become the first digital trade fair to be opened by the Hamburg Messe und Congress in December 2020, followed by SMM 2021 in February.

Professor Uwe Freiherr von Lukas of the Ocean Technology Campus in Rostock, Germany, will be among the experts participating in the Offshore Dialogue online meeting. In the Digital Ocean Lab, situated just offshore in the Baltic Sea, his research team develops and tests submarine technology under practical conditions.

“Of course, after all those months of social distancing we were all looking forward to a physical or hybrid SMM. However, the current development of the pandemic leaves a digital SMM as the only option. I am therefore excited that over the past months we have been able to combine our forces and develop a digital version of SMM 2021 for the maritime community,” stated Claus Ulrich Selbach, Business Unit Director – Maritime and Technology Fairs & Exhibitions at Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH.
