Norway-based Kanfer Shipping signs Letter of Intent with Taizhou Wuzhou

A Letter of Intent (LOI) for a pair of small-scale LNG bunker and distribution vessels has been signed by Norway-based Kanfer Shipping with the China-based Taizhou Wuzhou Shipbuilding Industry.

During the first half of 2023, the two vessels with a 6,000-cbm tank capacity each are scheduled for delivery.

For the construction of additional vessels, the LOI includes an option. Together with its associates, Kanfer will own the vessels and charter them out on long term contracts.

The conceptual developer of LNG delivery and bunker vessels is CGR Arctic Marine, Kanfer's Norway-based technological partner.

Kanfer said in its statement that the concept design of CGR for these two LNG bunker and distribution ships, including their advanced cargo and gas processing plants, addresses the immediate industry need for more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly LNG bunkering.

“Kanfer sees a rapidly expanding market for LNG bunker vessels as the world maritime industry continues to pivot towards its decarbonization goals through LNG. The growing demand for new LNG bunkering vessels makes our decision well-timed, especially now that equivalent, new-built vessels to be delivered in 2022 have already been chartered out,” stated Founder and CEO of Kanfer Shipping Stig Hagen.

Hagen also said that the need for new LNG bunkering centers to emerge will indeed be crucial as the gas-driven vessel trading trend will be global and highly diversified.
