Korean Register certifies first cybersecurity compliant ship
The Korean Register (KR) has conducted a detailed cybersecurity survey of the Songa Hawk chemical / oil tanker and certified the ship to be fully compliant in all areas.
Marshall Islands-flagged Songa Hawk has become the first ship to receive this sort of certification.
The 13,300 dwt vessel is a part of the fleet of Songa Shipmanagement. Songa handles eighteen chemical / oil tankers and five semi-submersible vessels, and operates them. In 2018 the company signed a five-year cybersecurity deal with KR covering its 23-vessel fleet.
KR performed a Songa Shipmanagement cybersecurity audit and certified the organization as the first company to accomplish this in 2019, to be fully compliant in all fields.
Two years from the original contract, Songa Hawk has now been accredited by KR as compliant with ship cybersecurity, successfully passing inspection of 81 products in eighteen categories including risk management, asset management, technical security and response to accidents and recovery.
