Japanese NYK Line boosts LNG carrier management capacity

The Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) has signed an agreement with Total to acquire shares in Gazocean, the shipping management company.

Under the sales and purchase agreement with Total, on October 22, NYK Line will buy all the shares of the French group in Gazocean.Headquarters are located in Marseille, France, and in charge of operating six LNG carriers, Gazocean is now a wholly-owned NYK unit.

This move will improve the vessel-management system of NYK and extend the LNG transportation sector of the company in France.

Prior to the purchase, NYK held 20 percent of the stock in Gazocean and Total held 80 percent.

The acquisition has been checked as part of the regulatory knowledge and consultation process by Gazocéan's employee representatives. It has the support of the competent authorities as well.
