Kalmar, part of Cargotec, was awarded a contract to supply a total of 10 hybrid straddle carriers to Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) for its ECT Delta terminal in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The order was booked in the order intake for Cargotec's 2021 Q1, with delivery expected to be completed according to the company's release during Q3 of 2021.

Located on Rotterdam's North Sea coast, Hutchison Ports ECT Delta is one of the largest container terminals in Europe and is capable of handling the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels without any restrictions. The terminal benefits from frequent connections throughout Europe, Asia and North Africa to more than 100 ports.

ECT Delta uses its fleet of straddle carriers for landside horizontal transport, truck loading and unloading.

When compared to traditional diesel-powered machines, the Kalmar Hybrid Straddle Carriers significantly reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Also, hybrid machines produce far less noise than their diesel counterparts. The hybrid Kalmar machine also features a maintenance-free regenerative energy system that converts energy-lowering braking and spreader into electrical power and stores it in a state-of-the-art lithium-ion on-board battery system.

Kalmar provides ports, terminals, distribution centres and the heavy industry with the widest range of cargo handling solutions and services.
