Yang Ming holds naming ceremony for its latest vessel

On December 15, Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (Yang Ming) held a naming ceremony at CSBC's Kaohsiung shipyard for its 2,800 TEU class complete container vessels, 'YM Certainty'

YM Certainty will be the sixth in a series of ten 2,800 TEU complete container vessels constructed at the CSBC shipyard to be delivered in 2020. It is fitted with 353 plugs for reefer containers and has a nominal capacity of 2,940 TEU.

With a length of 209.75 meters, a width of 32.8 meters, a draft of 11.2 meters, YM Certainty is designed to cruise at a speed up to 21 knots. In order to boost energy efficiency and maximize hydrodynamic performance, the new building incorporates the Sea Sword Bow design.

Using its electronic controlled fuel injection engine with a low-load tuning Exhaust Gas Bypass (EGB) fuel control system and scrubber installation would effectively reduce NOx and SOx emissions and allow Yang Ming's global fleet to achieve both competitive and operational efficiency advantages in ocean environmental protection.

YM Certainty is also certified with the Smart INF and Smart SHM notations from ABS and the "Smartship H, Et, I" notations from the CR Classification Society.

Recognition indicates that the vessels are fitted with Big Data Acquisition and Cloud Transmission smart information infrastructure, which enables endurance tracking of the ship structure through the research program of ABS. A total of six 2,800 TEU self-owned vessels and three 11,000 TEU chartered-in vessels have been delivered to Yang Ming since 2020, while the remaining four 2,800 TEU self-owned vessels and another eleven 11,000 TEU chartered-in newbuildings will be delivered in 2021 and 2022.

Intra-Asian freight rates have recently risen, led by volume growth in long-haul trade.

Vietnam is the largest export market among the South Asian countries. Yang Ming will be able to seize the opportunity and further boost its intra-Asia efficiency with the deployment of YM Certainty on the THX operation.
