Wärtsilä to supply four LNG-fueled platforms of Harvey Energy

The Finnish technology group Wärtsilä was contracted to supply four Harvey Energy class LNG-fueled platform supply vessels (PSVs) with its energy storage system (ESS) to be retrofitted.

Earlier, the fifth vessel in this class was equipped with a Wärtsilä ESS. All five vessels will be capable of complete tri-fuel service when the upgrade project is finished.

The ships will be capable of operating a closed bus Dynamic Positioning (DP) with only one engine, supplemented by the Wärtsilä Energy Storage System.

The vessels will be able to work on battery power only while stationary in the field or in port, thereby significantly reducing both fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, Wärtsilä said in its statement.

The four vessels, the Harvey Power, Harvey Liberty, Harvey Freedom, and Harvey America, will each be equipped with a Wärtsilä ESS with 746 kWh 1100 VDC batteries comprising a Closed Bus-Tie 1360Kw Drive.

The project for retrofitting will begin in 2021 and will be completed in early 2022.
