UECC and GoodFuels to test biofuel on RoRo vessel

A collaborative trial of GoodFuels Bio-Fuel Oil has been conducted by Norway's shortsea provider RoRo Transportation United European Car Car Carriers (UECC) and the renewable marine biofuel leader GoodFuels.

Trials will test 3,000 metric tons of renewable biofuel on the 140-meter, 2.080-vehicle transporter, which represents a significant move forward for the RoRo category of marine biofuel.

The biobunkering will be the first in a sequence of bunkering operations between March and May 2020, taking place in the Port of Rotterdam.

M/V Autosky will assess the BFO between Zeebrugge, Belgium and Santander, Spain, on its normal route. The experiment is expected to result in a well-to-wake loss in CO2 emissions by more than 6,500 metric tons.

Through scalability, renewable marine biofuel efficiently helps shipowners and operators to meet with both the 2020 sulphur limit of 0.50 per cent and potential carbon reduction requirements by 2030 and 2050.

After the trial period UECC and GoodFuels will discuss more opportunities for continued adoption of marine biofuels within the RoRo market.
