U.S. unveils Jordan Cove LNG export project

The proposed US West Coast export terminal for $10 billion Jordan Cove LNG has received final approval from federal authorities.

The U.S. Department of Energy has granted up to 1.08 billion cubic feet of export per day from the Oregon LNG terminal to the project developer, Canada's Pembina Pipeline Corp.

The project includes a 229-mile pipeline crossing four counties in Southern Oregon and the Coos Bay 7.8-mtpa LNG export terminal.

The plant will receive natural gas from both Canada and the U.S. and export it to every nation in which the latter has no FTA.

Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette said this export permit for the first US West Coast LNG project will facilitate access to further position the US as the world's top LNG supplier.

In 2014 the Department of Energy conditionally approved exports from the LNG project. Earlier this year, US FERC approved Jordan Cove and the connecting pipeline too.

The Jordan Cove LNG terminal, including the pipeline, could create more than 6,000 jobs during peak construction if built to their authorized capacity.

Pembina aims to launch the project in 2025, which had previously been confronted with opposition from state and environmental activists.
