Turkey and Italy conducted joint drill in Mediterranean

Italian and Turkish submarines performed a joint Mediterranean maritime exercise, Turkey's Ministry of Defense said on Monday.

In a tweet, the ministry stated that the two navies have the Mediterranean Sea's most powerful submarine force, and will continue to improve their interoperability with maritime training.

Ankara and Rome both both support Libya's U.N.-recognized National Accord Government, which signed two separate pacts with Turkey on November 27, one guaranteeing security cooperation and the other on mutual maritime boundaries of Eastern Mediterranean countries.

Turkey and Italy, both members of NATO, are two regional powers in the Mediterranean basin which share common interests, history and values.
