TECO 2030 ASA works on marine fuel cells together with AVL List GmbH

TECO 2030 ASA, a Norwegian engineering and equipment development company, announced that it and its Austrian partner AVL List GmbH had completed a feasibility and design analysis for marine fuel cells.

In accordance with its Fuel Cell Development Roadmap, the company is now moving on to the next step of maritime fuel cell development.

To meet global climate targets, the maritime industry must significantly reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The shipping industry's continued growth has been followed by growing emissions, with carbon emissions increasing by over 9% between 2012 and 2018, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set a lofty goal of cutting carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 and 70% by 2050, compared to 2008.

According to TECO 2030, hydrogen will be critical in helping the maritime industry decarbonize and become more environmentally friendly.

Fuel cells and hydrogen, according to the company, are "the most powerful ways" to generate electric power and store energy as fuel. TECO 2030 has created a handcrafted modular fuel cell system for heavy-duty marine applications, allowing ships to convert from fossil fuels to hydrogen and become emission-free. ​
