Taiwanese liner Evergreen plans to build 20 boxships

As part of a major fleet expansion programme, Taiwanese liner Evergreen has announced the order of twenty 15,000 teu containerships.

The company stated that it will construct the ships at Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Jiangnan Shipbuilding, Imabari Shipbuilding, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Hyundai Heavy Industries.The ships are expected to cost between $2.3 billion and $2.6 billion to construct, according to Evergreen.

Evergreen will have a fleet of about 1.6 million slots thanks to the additional 300,000 slots. Evergreen currently operates a fleet of 197 ships with a total capacity of 1.28 million teu, making it the world's seventh largest containerline, according to Alphaliner numbers. It currently has a 60-ship orderbook with a total capacity of 454,200 teu.
