Swiss-headquartered MSC linked to Borealis boxship pair

According to the latest Shipping Intelligence Weekly by Clarksons Research, the Swiss-based container operator Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) continues to expand its fleet at a rapid pace.

Clarksons notes that MSC has picked up Borealis Maritime's 2006-built 2,732 TEU boxing pair Telemann and Bomar Spring, paying a total of $15 million.

In the second-hand market of late, MSC was particularly active. The company has purchased 16 ships worth more than $260m in the last four months, according to Alphaliner, not including this new offer.

In a report last month, Sea-Intelligence analysts indicated that MSC might soon surpass its 2M partner, Maersk, as the world's largest carrier.
