The dup is one of nine new vessels that Stena has ordered from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai).
Three E-Flexer class ships have already been delivered by the shipyard. Stena Line will service the two new ships after their scheduled delivery in 2022, and they will be able to travel across Europe on a variety of routes.
According to Stena, the latest design uses two propulsion engines instead of four, resulting in a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. As previously mentioned, the ships can be propelled by a single propulsion engine at speeds of less than 18 knots.
The ships will have the option of switching to methanol or LNG propulsion, as well as an electric hybrid conversion.
In addition, the E-Flexer RoPax ferries have a special hull that decreases water resistance and is painted with an organic, copper-free paint to reduce biofouling.
