Samsung Heavy receives $2.5 billion deal from Evergreen

Evergreen Marine Corp. of Taiwan has chosen South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to construct twenty 15,000 TEU containerships.

Evergreen Marine announced plans earlier this week to construct a boxship fleet for between $115 million and $130 million per unit. Several Asian shipbuilders have been bidding for this lucrative contract.

Samsung Heavy reported in a stock exchange filing on March 26, 2021, that it had landed a contract worth KRW 2.8 trillion (approximately $2.5 million).

The newbuilds are scheduled to be completed by June 30, 2025, according to SHI.

So far this year, the shipbuilder has received orders worth $5.1 billion for the construction of 42 vessels, accounting for 65 percent of its annual order target for 2021.
