Russia hosts eight-nation Arctic Council meeting

A regular meeting of representatives of the international Arctic Council will be held in Russia on Monday under the aegis of the National Security Council.

The Arctic Council is an intergovernmental forum which includes the eight Arctic nations: the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, and Denmark.

Six international organizations which represents the "Arctic Indigenous Peoples" have officially permanent participant status. There are currently twelve non-Arctic observer nations.
