Police discovers illegal oily waste on cargo ship in Germany

In Germany, officials have found an improperly processed oily waste on board a cargo ship flagged with Barbados docked in Bremerhaven.

On March 3, the Bremen Water Police conducted a routine check of engine room for a vessel.

The officers found around 300 liters of oily waste that had been illegally deposited in a cofferdam not meant for this reason. A 45-year-old Syrian engineer was found responsible. He has been required to pay a EUR 1,900 security deposit. Moreover, a criminal charge was brought related to the improper management of waste.

According to police, the unidentified ship will be allowed to leave the port once it repairs the deficiencies.

The Bremen Water Police investigation is still under way.
