Newest LNG-powered vessel of CMA CGM completes maiden voyage

On March 1, the Containerships Borealis, CMA CGM's newest LNG-powered vessel, arrives at Rotterdam's Heijplaat Shortsea Terminal.

The ship set sail from Yantian, China, on its maiden voyage on February 1, 2021. The Handy container ship is 170 meters long, 27 meters wide, and has a capacity of 1,400 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

Containerships is an intra-European shipping firm with 32 vessels and 700 vehicles, as well as train and inland shipping services.

Four of the company's 32 vessels are LNG-powered. Containerships Nord, Containerships Aurora, Containerships Polar, and Containerships Arctic are only a couple of them. The Containerships Borealis is the parent company's tenth LNG-powered vessel.

By 2022, the company expects to have 26 natural gas-powered boats.

Both the Port of Rotterdam Authority and CMA CGM endorse the shift of maritime shipping from fuel oil to LNG as a fuel.
