Kidnapped 13 crew members of Curacao Trader released

The 13 crew members of the product tanker MT Curacao Trader, who had been abducted from Benin back in July, have been released. Crew are all safe and well.

The information was verified earlier this week by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced that 7 Russian sailors had been released on 24 August. The remaining 6 Ukrainian sailors have also been released.

The Ministry said the release was the result of joint efforts by Russian Embassy diplomats in Abuja, the Nigerian authorities and the shipowner 's representatives.

The crew members are currently stationed at the Nigerian Navy Regional Headquarters in Port Harcourt, where they will undergo a medical examination before returning to their homelands.
