Iranian boxship Shahraz refloated off Batam

The Iranian boxship Shahraz was refloated today in a delicate operation involving several vessels.

The ship has been trapped in the same place off the coast of Batam, Indonesia, since it grounded on May 10 last year.

Images acquired by Splash today indicate that the Shahraz has undergone extensive repairs while at sea in order to make it seaworthy. Before its owners, IRISL, will consider putting it back into service, it will need to be inspected for further repairs.

Surprisingly, a boxship scythed into the Iranian vessel six months after it had grounded in November.

After leaving Singapore for Jakarta, the Tina 1, operated by Technomar Shipping of Greece, collided with the Shahraz.
