Global mining group Anglo American orders dual-fuel capesize pair

Anglo American, the world's largest mining company, has placed an order for the construction of two LNG dual-fuel capesize bulk carriers at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.

LNG will be the primary fuel for the 187,000-dwt ships, with diesel as a backup. The ships are expected to be delivered in 2023.

A chartered fleet of about 30 bulkers is owned by Anglo American. Taiwanese shipowner U-Ming placed an order for four 187,000 dwt bulkers at Waigaoqiao in November for a 10-year charter contract with Anglo American.

Meanwhile, Anglo American has announced plans to spend up to $330 million in its Brazilian operations this year, with the majority of the funds going into increasing the productivity of its flagship Minas-Rio iron ore complex.
