Ferus Smit launches latest LNG-fueled chemical tanker of Thun Tankers

The new LNG-fueled oil/chemical tanker built for Swedish shipper Thun Tankers has been launched by Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit.

The Thun Equality, designated Nb. 451, is the third ship in Thun Tankers' E-Class series.

The new tanker will be fuelled by LNG, with a pressurized tank mounted on the tank deck, according to the shipyard.

The ship will have a gross tonnage of 7999 dwt and a total capacity of 9540 cubic meters in nine coated cargo tanks, which will be ideal for MARPOL and IMO type II chemical cargoes.

With a length of 115 meters and a width of 15.87 meters, the vessel is Ice Class 1A FS and will be able to work in the Baltic all year. It will also be powered by a Wartsila 6L34DF main engine that can run on both liquefied natural gas and gas oil.

The E-class vessels are an extension of Erik Thun Group's current fleet.

The Thun Eos and Thun Evolve, two of four gas-powered product tankers, have already been shipped.

The two remaining vessels in the series will be delivered in 2021, according to Thun Tankers.
