Explosive-laden boat cited in attack on Hafnia's BW Rhine

Saudi Arabia said that in yesterday's assault on Hafnia's LR tanker BW Rhine at a Saudi Aramco facility in Jeddah, an explosive-laden boat was used.

"While discharging at Jeddah, BW subsidiary Hafnia simply described yesterday's attack as coming from a "external source. Both 22 seafarers with no injuries were accounted for.

Hull damage occurred on the port side of water ballast tank five and on the port side of cargo tank four of the 12-year-old ship. A technique widely used by Houthi rebels based in Yemen is a boat carrying explosives.

The statement made yesterday by the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia, via the state-run Saudi Press Agency, also described the incident as a "terrorist attack" but did not specifically accuse any particular party of carrying it out. So far no terrorist or militant group has asserted responsibility.
