Cruise ship passengers to be quarantined at military bases in U.S.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that the Grand Princess cruise ship's American passengers will be carried to military bases in California, Texas and Georgia for COVID-19 virus monitoring and a 14-day quarantine.

The department announced that almost 1,000 citizens of California will join the compulsory quarantine at Travis Air Force Base north of Miramar San Francisco and Marine Corps Air Station near San Diego.

The department says all of them will be checked during their quarantine for COVID-19 symptoms.

The Grand Princess ship bringing over 3,500 passengers from 54 different nations, is set to dock Monday at Port of Oakland, California.

Federal officials say the state department works with several hundred passengers ' home countries to prepare for repatriation to their region.

If the travelers are cleared of the check protocol, the Texans will be allowed to head home and the others will be transferred to their home states using a protection system developed for prior cruise ship passengers brought to Lackland.
