CMA CGM to operate newest terminal of Alexandria Port

The Egyptian authorities have announced their intention to enter into a long-term partnership with CMA CGM in order to run and manage Pier 55, the future multipurpose terminal of the Port of Alexandria.

During the visit by Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group, Egypt announced its plans.

The collaboration will also include, as told, the development of logistics technologies, digitalization, the contribution to maritime and logistics training for younger generations, as well as other investments.

The terminal, covering an area of 560,000 square meters with quays about 2 kilometers long, will have a capacity of approximately TEU 1.5 million.

In 2022, operations are scheduled to commence. Currently, CMA CGM has six ports in Egypt, connecting the country to the rest of the world. The group's vessels pass the Suez Canal each year more than 700 times.

CMA CGM has announced that it is improving its strategic role as a Mediterranean container terminal operator with a capacity of nearly 7 million TEUs, including facilities in Marseilles-Fos, Seville, Malta, Thessaloniki and Lattakia.

The Mediterranean is a significant region at the crossroads between Africa, Asia and Europe for the growth of the group's operations.

CMA CGM, committed to the energy transformation of the maritime industry, will deploy 15,000 TEUs of LNG-powered vessels to its operation between Asia and the Mediterranean by the end of 2021.
