Chinese polar expedition cruise sailing away

China’s first self-made cruise ship for polar expeditions, The Greg Mortimer set sail for the southern Argentine before heading to its South Pole voyage.

The vessel built by China Merchants Industry Holdings and was delivered to the U.S.-based cruise vessel provider Sunstone Friday. The China Merchants Industry Holdings have so far accepted orders for seven polar cruise ships and three medium-sized cruise ships.

Being able to accommodate 254 people on board, the vessel will arrive arrive in the Antarctic region by the end of October for a two-week exploration tour.
