China's DSIC launching VLCC CSSC Liaoning

CSSC Liaoning, the 308,000 DWT very large crude carrier (VLCC), built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) for a leasing firm of China Shipbuilding Trading Company (CSTC), was christened and delivered on May 8.

The separately designed next generation VLCC by DSIC has a total length of 332.95 meters and shaped width of 60 metres. The ship can normally load 2 million barrels of crude oil through the Straits of Malacca when the navigational draft is 20.5 meters, DSIC said.

According to the manufacturer, the new tanker boasts a range of energy-saving boasts, including its engineered hull side, energy-saving G type main motor, new large-diameter and high-performance propellers, and energy-efficient hybrid systems with exclusive intellectual property rights, positioned before and after the propellers.
