BW Gemini's retrofitted vessel takes to sea trials

For its pioneering very large gas carrier (VLGC), BW LPG launched a week-long sea and gas trials.

In its comment, the company noted that BW Gemini was retrofitted with a dual-fuel propulsion technology for liquefied petroleum gas.

As the world's first VLGC to be fueled by liquefied petroleum gas, BW Gemini has achieved a landmark.

The retrofitted main engine operates on LPG and is able to easily turn to traditional petrol.

At the Yiu Lian Dockyard in Shenzhen , China, the retrofitting operation was completed. The process took approximately 60 days and 2,060 tons of carbon dioxide were estimated to have been released.

As opposed to ordering a new building with equivalent technology, this is roughly 97 per cent lower.

Decarbonization is one of the key problems of the sector and a core commitment of BW LPG to seek sustainable growth.
