In 2003, his uncle, Arne Alexander Wilhelmsen, chairman of the family firm, now known as Awilhelmsen, replaced Wilhelmsen on the company's board of directors.
Awilhelmsen Group is Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd's biggest shareholder.
