Arne Wilhelmsen, a founder of Royal Caribbean Cruises, dies at 90

Arne Wilhelmsen, a founding member of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., died in Palma, Spain, Saturday. He was 90.

He helped create Royal Caribbean Cruise Line in 1968, and quickly targeted Miami's warm weather cruising market. He has spent more than 30 years on the company's board of directors.

In 2003, his uncle, Arne Alexander Wilhelmsen, chairman of the family firm, now known as Awilhelmsen, replaced Wilhelmsen on the company's board of directors.

Awilhelmsen Group is Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd's biggest shareholder.
