Damen signed a deal with Korean yard Hanjin Heavy

The Dutch Damen Shipyards Group has signed an agreement with Korean yard Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) to supply components for a vessel for oil recovery / dredging.

A+A-

Under the contract, Damen will supply all oil recovery equipment, as well as a full dredging plant.

The multi-purpose vessel of 5,000 tons, 4,100 m3, will operate mainly as an oil recovery vessel and perform work as a hopper dredger in the case of no emergency.

The package of equipment includes the dredging gear, the oil sweeping gear and the electric and hydraulic systems. Furthermore, Frauen is undertaking the integration of all these systems.

The oil recovery machine consists of a robust 15 meter sweeping arm complete with its crane and various oil pumps to handle oils of varying viscosity. The system for oil recovery was designed to work in waves of up to 4 metres.

KOEM, the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, is building the multipurpose vessel.
